"A virtuoso of intro-spection" Berliner Morgenpost

David Geringas, a "master cellist from Lithuania" Evening Standard, is one of the most versatile musicians of our time. Having studied with Mstislav Rostropovich at the Moscow Conservatory, he won First Prize and Gold Medal at the Tchaikovsky Competition in 1970. Known for "beauty and deep authenticity" Res Musica, Geneva, he offers an unusually broad repertoire from the Baroque to works by contemporary composers, having introduced many compositions by the Russian and Lithuanian avant-garde (some of which were dedicated to him).

David Geringas has appeared as soloist with some of the most renowned orchestras in the world, among them the Berlin and Munich Philharmonics, the Gewandhaus-orchestra, all German radio symphonies, the leading orchestras of Vienna, Amsterdam, London, Paris, Warsaw, St. Petersburg, Moscow, Montreal, Chicago, Philadelphia, Pittsburgh, Washington, DC, Tel Aviv, Tokyo, Shanghai and Seoul. He has collaborated with conductors, such as Ashkenazy, Boreyko, Chung, Dutoit, Eschenbach, Lopez-Cobos Penderecki, Rattle, Rostropovich, Salonen, Saraste, Sawallisch, Temirkanov, Tennstedt and Tilson Thomas. "If there was an "Oscar" for a live performance, then it probably would have been given him..."(Shostakovich concerto No. 1 with Vienna Symphony) Kronen Zeitung, Vienna . He has also performed at many major festivals worldwide.

As a conductor he has led, among others the Chamber Orchestra of the Vienna Symphony (Konzert-Verein), the Danish National and the Iceland Symphony Orchestras, the Kremerata Baltica as well as orchestras in Lithuania, Italy, Holland, Mexico and Costa Rica. In 2007, David Geringas made his debut with the Tokyo and China Philharmonic Orchestras. He is the regular guest conductor of orchestras in Lithuania and Japan. In addition David Geringas is a welcome chamber music collaborator worldwide.  Ian Fountain is his closest piano partner.

His discography includes more than 100 recordings, many of which won major prizes, among them the Grand Prix du Disque for the recording of the 12 cello concertos by Luigi Boccherini. Of one of his most recent recordings Bach Plus  (Bach with Gubaidulina, Krenek Corigliano, etc.) der Spiegel says " He breathes a pulsing life on the gavottes and gigues, the sarabandes and the allemandes, and reminds one in his searching elegance of a ballet dancer with athletic jumps, sure landings - and all with a smile."
